The process of decomposing and fermentation are our original patent technologies.
No strong acid or ozone are required.
Generated alcohol is in the gas phase, it never inhibit bacteria from developing.

In the conventional techniques
Method for strong acid hydrolysis
■Too much cost, energy and environmental burden is required for delignification and decomposing cellulose.
Method for enzymatic saccharification
■Overall, the control of the reaction is difficult.
■The yeast have been killed by their own product alcohol in liquid.

We control the life‐cycle of a bacteria for delignification, cellulose decomposition and fermentation.
We have optimized the microbial degradation in order to generate alcohol as a gas phase.
The bacteria is never killed by their own product alcohol because it is not in a liquid but a gas phase.
As a result, a lot of wasted processes in the conventional techniques are omitted. The production costs and input energy can be minimized using our new technology.

In the conventional techniques when we produce alcohol from the woody biomass, it was necessary to separate lignin from the materials. And after having separated lignin, we had to break cellulose using strong acid, ozone or super critical water. It costs too much and also makes an impact on the environment. In addition, it was necessary to distill to obtain the conc.
It must be lower-cost and more simple getting alcohol from woody biomass.
We have a lot of study about the habits of the microbe. And then we have developed an unique processes to produce alcohol gas from woody biomass by a microbe. It’s a result of the collaborative research with HYOGO PREFECTURAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY.
Our technology is solid-phase fermentation, so it can produce biogas directly without going through a liquid phase. Generated alcohol is in the gas phase, it never inhibit bacteria from developing.
Even now using woody biomass is almost direct combustion. However, we became able to extract high value-added materials such as ethyl acetate or ethanol from the woody biomass by our technology.
In addition, we can obtain more energy from alcohol fermentation residue .
Now we are going to begin the cascade use of the woody biomass with our technology.
It can be omitted a lot of wasted processes in the conventional techniques,using our new technology.
When we try to generate the alcohol in the conventional techniques, the maximum concentration of the generated alcohol is almost under the 15%.
Because the fermentation processes was done at the liquid phase in the conventional techniques. In the liquid, it is unavoidable the bacteria had been killed by their own product alcohol. Therefore it was necessary to distill.
However under this situation our technology made it possible to obtain the bio fuel directly without going through a liquid phase. We can obtain several kind of useful fuels by temperature control.
In addition we can generate glucose from the cellulose, and we can control the best condition to obtain the biofuel, for example alcohols or ethyl acetates from the glucose.
This technology can be applied not only to the woody biomass but any other biomass for example rice straw, bamboo or etc.

I studied about the brewing of Japanese sake for many years, and now I have developed a method to produce bioethanol and biogas from the bamboos or any other woodies.
Now our technology is going to practical use. In this technology, decomposing lignin or cellulose, and alcohol fermentation is done by a single species of a fungus.
In addition, the residual substance which finally occurred because of ethanol production and ethyl acetate production does not fall the quantity of heat.
In other word, this process that produce biogas improves the heat capacity of woodies.
After FIT started, a lot of power stations have been built everywhere in Japan. And effective use of woodies is expected.
It is the most important technology that can use lignocellulose-based biomass, because 70% of our country are covered by the forest.
Our institute have developed unique technology with YONEKUNI. We are going to make this technology widespread.
